Albert "Al" Neri (June 29, 1925 - March 23, 2008) was an American police officer in the NYPD who later became a mobster in the Corleone crime family. Born in The Bronx, New York City, Neri began his career as a police officer in the NYPD in the 1940s, garnering a tough and fearsome reputation on the streets of New York with his commanding presence and his signature weapon of choice; a large flashlight which he would bash the foreheads of criminals with. His career as an officer eventually came to an end in 1954, when he was kicked out of the police force for the brutal murder of a Harlem pimp that he committed. The Corleone family managed to use their political connections to get Neri's voluntary manslaughter charge dropped, and in recognition of their assistance, he showed his gratitude by joining their organization, being placed in the crew of Peter Clemenza until becoming a capo himself shortly thereafter. He was also the personal enforcer to the second boss, Michael Corleone, serving as the head of security at his residence in Lake Tahoe, Nevada and having multiple of his enemies killed for throughout the years. In March 1960, Neri was promoted to the rank of Underboss after the death of Fredo Corleone and held this position until his eventual retirement in the 1990s, being replaced by Lou Pennino. He lived the remainder of his days in Orlando, Florida and passed away from natural causes in March 2008 at the age of 82.
