Anthony "The Ant" Squigliaro was a Soldier in the Clemenza Crew of the Corleone crime family, nicknamed "the Ant" because he dipped his bullets in cyanide (ant poison). He was a close companion of Joey Zasa, called "his bulldog" who accompanied him everywhere.

Biography[]

Squigliaro was born in Terrasini, Sicily but immigrated to the United States as a zip enforcer for Frank Pentangeli in 1959. He worked with the Clemenza Crew as a hitman, and was known as "the Ant" because of his habit of dipping bullets in ant poison before he carried out a hit. Squigliaro was responsible for the murder of several non-Corleone drug dealers in Little Italy and Brooklyn for Pentangeli's successor Joey Zasa, and later became his bodyguard. Squigliaro accompanied him everywhere, also earning him the nickname "Zasa's Bulldog". Squigliaro followed him to Michael Corleone's party after he recieved papal honors, and was present when Zasa met with him to tell him of his problems with Vincent Mancini, an upstart bastard of Sonny Corleone

Death[]

Squigliaro and Zasa attended the Meucci Foundation's festival during the Feast of San Gennaro, following him through Little Italy amongst crowds of Italian-Americans, salsiccia vendors, and parade rafts. When Zasa saw a man named Lou Pennino scratching the front fender of a Cadillac Eldorado, Squigliaro headed to him, telling him to get out of the area. However, one of the people carrying a statue of the Virgin Mary let loose the statue and drew a Lupara, shooting Squigliaro in the chest. The blast knocked Squigliaro backwards, breaking a table behind him, and starting a shootout between the Zasa Crew and the Pennino Crew.
