Zapulla was put through the NYU Law School by Mary Valvona when they were lovers in the early 90s, becoming the Consigliere of the Pavano crime family. He was arrested in 1998 for racketeering, his first arrest in the criminal life, and his latest arrest was in 2005 for tax evasion. Due to a drug arrest in 2001 for possessing cocaine, he could no longer practice law but served the Pavanos in an advisory capacity.
