Corrado John "Uncle Junior" Soprano, Jr. was the official boss of the DiMeo crime family from 1998 to 2006, with central power circulating around his nephew Tony Soprano. Soprano never committed any actual murders but ordered six deaths within his own family in the 1950s-2000s after he felt that his nephew was conspiring against him. He later fell ill and showed a sensitive side, letting Tony take near-full control of the organization. He died in 2010.
Soprano was from The Bronx but was raised in Newark in Ironback ("Down Neck"), in New Jersey. He dropped out of school to join the DiMeo crime family and took over Satriale's Meat Market from Francis Satriale, the hangout for DiMeo made men. In the mid 1950s he became a made man in the family after his brother and later became Underboss before helping his nephew Tony Soprano rise to the rank of Capo, youngest captain in the family. After Giacomo Aprile, boss of the family, died in 1998, Uncle Junior and Soprano squabbled over the succession, and he killed Brendan Filone when he found out that he was hijacking his trucks. In April 1999 Uncle Junior's two hitmen Mikey Palmice and Chucky Signore were both killed after a string of attempts to kill Tony. Soon, Tony planned to assassinate him but he was arrested, and Gigi Cestone took over his crew in 2000. He was held in house arrest by mid 1999 but his attorney said that he was sick, keeping him from trial. He soon became mentally handicapped in 2004, having Alzheimer's disease, forgetting about his attempts on Tony's life, and he eventually died in a retirement home On October 26 2010 with several mental illnesses.
