John Francis "Johnny Boy" Soprano was an American mobster of the New Jersey based DiMeo crime family, holding the rank of capo of the Soprano Crew. A respected member of the organization, he was the brother of captain Corrado "Junior" Soprano, and the father of soldier Tony Soprano, both of whom would go on to be bosses of the family later on. Soprano was involved with various illegal trafficking operations, and got arrested multiple times, spending five years in prison from 1967 to 1972. He died of emphysema in 1986, being replaced as captain by his son Tony.
