Joseph "The Ear" Massino is the former boss of the Bonanno crime family, reigning from 1991 to 2004. He became a Witness Protection Program informant, forfeiting a mountain of 270 gold bars and $7 million to help the FBI in order to avoid the death sentences for several murders. Vincent Basciano, the acting boss of the family, was one of the men imprisoned through Massino's testimonies. Massino was released in 2013 after a trial that gave him a "time served" sentence. Massino had organized the Three Capos Murder of May 1981 for his boss Philip Rastelli.
