Killer Moth (real name: Drury Walker) is a lamp-obsessed gangsta and a thug-for-hire, who would dress up as colourful moth in his schemes to rob some banks and jewellery stores.
He fancies himself as some sorta literal "anti-Batman", who is basically the mentally ill rich guy, Bruce Ultor, who likes to dress up as a bat. Like Bruce, Drury used tools and gadgets to fight people, except he fought non-criminals and protected criminals from law enforcement and Bruce for a price. Over the years, Killer Moth has been primarily seen as an ineffective criminal, desperate to make both the criminal underworld and the police of NYC take him seriously, although that doesn't happen. However, once he found himself in the employ of Cuneo crime family, working as a Soldato, he did manage to earn a small amount of respect from rival mobsters.
Biography[]
Drury Walker was born on 3 September, 1981, to father an alcoholic construction worker and mother a cook in Yonkers. Growing up abused by his daddio, he would eventually abandon his college studies and decide to make a better living by robbing stores. He got caught in his first robbery. While in prison, he read a newspaper article about Batman and decided to set himself up as the "anti-Batman", hiring and exposing himself out to the criminals of New York City] to help them elude capture by the police and Bruce. Upon his release, he used the hidden proceeds of his crimes to build a Mothcave, modelled on the photos of the Batcave in the newspaper article he read and saw.
Killer Moth also established a false identity as millionaire and actor, Lee Van Cleef. In this guise, he became friends with Bruce Ultor, Brad Pitt, Jack Sparrow's actor and diCaprio. Meanwhile, he also promoted himself to New York's criminals using his identity as Killer Moth, giving them each an infra-red Moth-signal that they could use to call him when Bruce or the cops skulked around. The Cuneos were especially grateful of this. In his first job as Killer Moth, he rescued some criminals from the police and then used his Mothmobile to defeat and capture Batman and Robin. The duo escaped, however, and Killer Moth threw a hissy fit as he never managed to re-capture them.
After his first defeat at the hands of Batgirl, Kinzie Kensington, another goody-two-shoes freak who likes dressing up as the flying rodent to fight "crimes". Despite this massive setback, Killer Moth was recognised as a potential asset in the Cuneo crime family and was initiated into the mob by The Joker to work as one of the footsoldiers. His first mission was stealing an important object from the Gotham Museum, the golden T-Rex statue as the museum owner was quite the religious sceptic and had a thing for dinosaurs. His plan was foiled by Batman and Jimmy Gordon, who took back the t-Rex statue and threw Moth to the police van. Moth was declared insane by the court, as his lawyer, Phillip Cuneo's adopted brother, Elvis Smooth, spent hours making evidence that Moth's persona was based on the fact that he was obsessed with lamps and believed himself to be an actual moth. This is why he was attempting to steal the idol of the dino in the first place: it was shiny af, with it's golden coat. However, this backfired when Drury took his obsession seriously and it stuck to him, becoming mentally ill and lamp-obsessed as he believed he was an actual moth.
Accepting the theory, Killer Moth was driven to the Arkham Asylum on Long Island where he was once again in the comfort of his Cuneo buddies, including the Joker himself, and joined up with him, Gerald Tech, Harley Queen and Jesse Lynch to plan out an escape from the loony hospital. At this time, he was also given the rank of Capo, as Joker was desperate for some leading men in his organisation.
After Don Joker, the Stracci Mayer Cobblepot and the Barzini lapdog, Riddler, bombed the entrance and back entrance to the asylum, they were able to escape with their respective cliques. Moth jumped onto his boss' helicopter, with Scarecrow, Hatter (who barely hung on to it), and Harli.
Joker and his crew soon arrived to his basement base at the Cuneo Mansion, where Moth was playing some card games with Jesse and Tech. However, Moth was way more focused on a lamp besides him than the poker game, so Jesse scared him, making Walker drop his cards to the table. When Joker summoned the trio over to show them his plan of destroying the entire New York with his poisonous waste and gas, they all agreed with it, being the insane psychos that they were, including Drury, as he knew that Joker's plan had little effect on the lampposts around town. When Harley came and said that there is no more toxic waste to create said poisonous gas and that their misanthropic plan has been halted, Joker send Gerald to Ace Chemicals, while Moth and Jesse hung out at the mansion, awaiting Joker's next order when he went with Harli to capture some commish Gorden.
Although they succeed, it backfires when Ultor comes in his bat costume, helped by Tim Drake, pretending to be a robin, and they free Gordon and capture Harley instead. One step closer to his plan, Joker meets up with the Purple moth on the cold streets of NY, where he is obsessing over a lamppost, but stops once he sees his boss arrive and he uses his electro-buzzer on the lamp to turn it off. Together, the two fight their way, with some help of the Cuneo soldiers, through the city's streets to the New York Cathedral, where Joker planned on releasing his gas and toxic bombs, plus waste to kill off the entire city, if not the whole state. Moth's orange gadgets that shoot out fireworks and his small Tommy proved to be most useful during their deadly crusade. While Joker went to the cathedral, Moth stood behind when he got possessed by Batwing's light, until Badman turned it off, but by then it was too late. Bruce and Robin chased after the escaping Moth, who send a bunch of goons after the two, but they were all defeated. After arriving to Killer Moth's hideout, which was a warehouse with a giant lightbulb inside, the two fought the Moth and defeated him, using his own bulb against him after Drake turned it on and the insane Walker had no choice but to succumb to its light. Moth begged the two for mercy, but Bruce said that no one messed with his city and planned to beat him some more, but just then, to avoid Bruce's rich fists, Moth told the two where Joker was hiding, at the Cathedral and was planning to release the green, fart-like gas that kills you, any second now. Moth was spared a fate worse than he could ever imagine at Robin and Bat's hands and was taken into custody.
Aftermath[]
Sometime later, Don Joker was killed by Bruce and Robin and Bruce was charged with manslaughter, even though he walked out free from the courts. Meanwhile, seeing how batshit crazy he is and the fact he already escaped from Arkham once, Moth was sent to the Dixmor Asylum with the rest of Joker's survived lieutenants.
Killer Moth was given a lightbulb on a wire in his cell, red in colour, and he would stare at it days and nights, seemingly at peace. He'd even sleep with it turned on. If the lightbulb happened to turn off, he would go berserk and start trying to get out of his cell, attacking the guards even. He has yet to escape (if he ever will) or make any progress. Someone will need to convince him that he was never a moth to begin with.
Trivia[]
- Despite claiming to be the perfect "anti-Batman", Bruce doesn't really consider him his main nemesis.
- It is unknown how he managed to get the belief that he's a real moth implanted in his mind after the court hearings. Perhaps Smooth's charisma was so strong that it even convinced him, or perhaps, unknowingly, he also had this belief in him, but Smooth just helped it open up.
- Anywho, even if he weren't insane because of that belief, he still runs around, jumping building to building in a spandex, so him and Bat should be considered nuts regardless.
