Frank Lanza

Frank Lanza

The Lanza crime family, also known as the San Francisco crime family, were a Sicilian and Sicilian-American La Cosa Nostra family that operated on the West Coast from San Francisco since their foundation in 1928 by Frank Lanza, until 2006, when Jimmy "the Hat" Lanza passed away. It had only 25 made members and was one of the smallest Italian Mafia organizations.

History[]

After the 1928 San Francisco gang war, Frank Lanza took over the city in the power vacuum that followed the murders of Jerry Feri, Alfredo Scariso, and Genaro Broccolo. They killed Luigi Malvese, the "Al Capone of the West" and leader of the Malvese crime family, on May 18, 1932, and took over prostitution, gambling, narcotics, extortions, racketeering, and other fronts in the city and created the Lanza crime family. The most powerful of these bosses was Jimmy "the Hat" Lanza, who had Las Vegas connections through William "Bones" Remmer, who also worked with the Genovese crime family. After Jimmy's death of old age in 2006, the family went extinct.
