The New York Police Department are the local law enforcement services of New York City and other cities in the US state of New York. In the 1940s, most of the police were Irishmen who had just arrived in the USA, and during that time, most of the police officers, politicians, judges, union bosses, DAs, FBI Agents, and other corrupt officials were in the pocket of Vito Corleone and the Corleone crime family. Policemen were bribed to either keep away from an impending criminal affair, to arrest a rival gang member, or to be a mole. The NYPD are the USA's largest law enforcement agency, with the LAPD being second.
