Philip "Phil" Leotardo was an Italian mobster and boss of the Lupertazzi crime family from 2007 until his murder that same year.
Phil was born in New York to an Italian family. He was raised in Manhattan and began getting into small crimes as a young man in the late 1950's. In 1960 his brother Billy was born. Leotardo began rising up the ranks, eventually becoming a made man in the Lupertazzi family. In 1984 he was sent to prison during the mafia crackdown in the 1980's. Phil is reported to have 27 hits under his belt.
"Class of '04"
In March of 2004 Leotardo was released from prison and began working with the Lupertazzi's again. Phil was known to have a dislike for DiMeo acting boss, Tony Soprano and it only increased when Soprano became boss in 2006.
Hit on Angelo Garepe and the death of Billy
On October 16, 2004 Leotardo and his brother Billy whacked a fellow mobster, Angelo Garepe. This angered the cosuin of Tony Soprano, Tony Blundetto. On October 17 Blundetto enraged at Angelo's death, shot Billy, killing him on a New York sidewalk. 6
In December of 2004 Leotardo wanted to kill Bludetto himself, but Tony Soprano took matters into his own hands and killed Blundetto with a shotgun blast to the face. Leotardo came across Blundetto's body hours later.
2006 - 2007
Leotardo kept causing problems for Tony, one of his biggest was the whacking of Vito Spatafore, whom he killed for being a homosexual. Leotardo became boss after the death of Johnny Sacrimoni in 2007, he even ordered the death of acting boss, Faustino Santoro to secure his position. In 2007 Leotardo began making hits on Tony's men, killing DiMeo capo, Bobby Bacala and attempting to kill Silvio Dante, though he survived.
On December 12, 2007 at a gas station Leotardo got out of his SUV and while talking to his wife he was shot through the side of the head and killed. His SUV rolled over his head and crushed it after his wife got out to help but left the brakes on.
