The Purple Nines (1972-2001) were a set of the Southside Hoods gang that operated in The Bronx and New Jersey. They were allies with the Leone crime family and Yakuza, and were enemies with the Red Jacks, Forelli crime family, and the Vialpando Cartel.

Dead Purple Nines
The Purple Nines were founded by Alex Sanchez in 1972 in New Jersey as another set of the Southside Hoods African-American street gang, and their color was purple like their name. The Purple Nines were originally allied with the Red Jacks set of the organization and assisted them in their 1998s takeover of The Bronx from the rival Italian Mafia's Forelli crime family with aid from the Leone crime family.
However, in 2001 the two sets parted ways after the Purple Nines began to deal with narcotics, which Red Jacks leader D-Ice was opposed to. The Purple Nines were gunned down in drive-by shootings, their Securicar armored vans were destroyed by RC bombs, and their gang members were defeated in a rumble by baseball bat-wielding Red Jacks. In the end, the Purple Nines were defeated and forced to end their rivalry and drug dealing.
