Tommy Gagliano

Tommy Gagliano

The Reina crime family was an Italian/Italian-American organized crime syndicate that operated in the New York neighborhoods of East Harlem and The Bronx from 1914 to 1930. They were founded and led by Tommy Reina, a Sicilian immigrant from Corleone who separated from the Morello crime family along with Tommy Gagliano. The family ended in 1930 with the death of Reina at the hands of Vito Genovese, and the family evolved into the Lucchese crime family.

History[]

Tommy Reina founded his gang in 1914 after leaving the Morello crime family with Tommy Gagliano, who became his Underboss. He had monopoly over the ice box distribution, and had family territories in East Harlem and The Bronx. In the late 1920s, Reina allied with Joe Masseria, the new leader of the Morello crime family, and the two of them fought as allies during the Castellammarese War in the 1930s. However, Tommy Reina chose to side with Salvatore Maranzano after a few months of fighting, betraying Masseria, who sent Vito Genovese and Joseph Pinzolo to kill him. They shot him in the head with a double-barrel shotgun, killing him, and his family ended. Soon, Gagliano took over as the Don of the Pinzolo crime family after murdering Joseph.
