The Southside Hoods (1970s-2001) are an African-American street gang from New Jersey and The Bronx, dealing in drugs and counterfeiting. The Hoods have two sets: the Purple Nines and Red Jacks. They are allies of the Yakuza and Leone crime family, while they are enemies of the Forelli crime family and Vialpando Cartel.

The Southside Hoods were founded in New Jersey by African-American teenagers in the 1970s, and were made up of two sets: the Purple Nines and the Red Jacks. In the 1990s the gang was united, and they took over The Bronx from the Forelli crime family with aid from Leone Capo Toni Cipriani. However, in 2001 the gang divided when the Purple Nines began to sell drugs, while the Red Jacks, led by D-Ice, were opposed to narcotics trading.
The war between the two sets was deadly: Claude Speed was hired to do a drive-by on the Purple Nines, use RC bombs to destroy their Securicar armored vans, stopping D-Ice's Infernus from being destroyed, and stealing platinum from a crashed airplane. In the end, the Nines were defeated in a rumble with bats, and were forced to stop drug dealing.
