The Sureños are Mexican gangs founded in southern California founded in 1968, investigated for murder, drug trafficking, extortion, assault, theft, robbery, fraud, human trafficking, and arms trafficking. They pay tribute to the Mexican Mafia, while the Norteños pay tribute to the Nuestra Familia, causing a rivalry. Their allies are the Mexican Mafia, Gulf Cartel, and Sinaloa Cartel, while they are enemies with Norteños, Nuestra Familia, Latin Kings, and Asian Boyz.

The Sureños were different from Norteños in that they paid tribute to the Mexican Mafia while in US State and correctional facilities. Out of prison, Sureños are known to fight each other, as "Sureños" was just their common culture; they are not a united gang. The Sureños are allies to the Mexican Mafia gangs and some drug cartels in Mexico, while they are enemies with many other Latin gangs as well as the Asian Boyz gang.
