The Virgilio crime family was an organized crime syndicate in the Sicilian Mafia that had control of Tampa from 1945 to 1960.

History Edit

The Virgilio crime family was founded in 1944 by Santo Virgilio in the town of Bompietro, Sicily. Virgilio's organization moved overseas following the American invasion, and it arrived in Tampa, Florida. The Virgilios were allied to the Roth crime family, and Hyman Roth supported Santo's business deals in Cuba, extorting hotel and casino owners there. Santo Virgilio and the family made deals with President Fulgencio Batista, and thus became very rich. However, they lost their power after Roth was murdered in 1960, already weakened by the loss of their Cuban rackets during the Cuban Revolution. Santo Virgilio was killed by Salvatore Drago that year, which led to the Drago crime family taking Tampa.
