The Zaluchi crime family is a Detroit Italian Mafia family that was founded in 1933 by Joseph Zaluchi after he eliminated the Purple Gang that controlled the city, and he became a well-liked Don, allying with the Corleone crime family and Zerilli crime family and rivaling the Tattaglia crime family.
History[]
The Zaluchi Family were forged in bloodshed against the Jewish Mob, but were generally peaceful, and their don Giuseppe Zaluchi refused to sell drugs near schools or to children, but allowed drug trade to the African-American folk. He had little enemies, but with the Five Families War between the Corleone crime family and the Five Families, they rivaled the Tattaglia crime family, who fought their Corleone allies. The Zaluchis made most of their profits through gambling with horse racing, owning one of the tracks in Detroit. Until the death of Zaluchi in 1972, the family was one of the strongest Midwestern organizations. In 1979, it was weakened when Paul Zaluchi was killed in the Atlantic City Massacre, but he was replaced shortly after and the family still exists, despite lack of influence over the city.
